How to make a Diwali WhatsApp status video for your shop

A short greeting video with your logo is the easiest Diwali post a small shop can make. Customers see it on WhatsApp status, and you can forward it to your broadcast list. Here is how to make one yourself, free.

1. Get your logo ready

• Use a PNG with a transparent background if you have one. A JPG works, but it shows a white box over your video.
• No transparent logo? Free background removers (Canva, remove.bg) do a decent job on simple logos.

2. Pick the right size

• WhatsApp / Instagram status and Reels: vertical 9:16 (1080×1920).
• Feed posts and broadcast forwards: square 1:1 (1080×1080) is safer, because it isn't cropped in chat previews.
• Length: 7-15 seconds. WhatsApp status allows longer clips, but most people tap past after a few seconds.

3. Build it in a free editor

1. Open CapCut, Canva or InShot and start a 9:16 project.
2. Add a background: a diya, rangoli or fireworks clip from the app's free library, or a still photo of your shop decorated for Diwali.
3. Put your logo in the top third, large enough to read on a small phone.
4. Add two lines of text: the greeting ("Happy Diwali" / "शुभ दीपावली") and one offer or thank-you line.
5. Keep the most important text out of the bottom 15%, where WhatsApp shows its reply bar.

4. Check before you post

• Spelling of your shop name and of the Hindi line (Devanagari letters should join correctly, not appear as separate boxes).
• Watch it once on your phone at full brightness and once at low brightness.
• Export as MP4. If the file is over about 16 MB, WhatsApp compresses it heavily, so export at 1080p, not 4K.

5. When to post

Post on Dhanteras morning and again on Diwali day. Status disappears after 24 hours, so a second post isn't spam.
